Route 72 Manahawkin Bay Bridges, Ship Bottom Borough, NJ

Environmental Resolutions, Inc. (ERI) was contracted to provide LSRP (Licensed Site Remediation Professional) pre-construction investigation services for the Route 72 Manahawkin Bay Bridges Linear Construction Project.  The proposed construction for this project includes the installation of stormwater piping from Central Avenue to the Manahawkin Bay along the 8th Street and 9th Street corridors.  The project consists of the excavation and disposal of soil and the dewatering of groundwater for discharge to the Manahawkin Bay.

The objective of ERI’s investigation, which was contracted by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Contractor C.J. Hesse, Inc., was to determine if any soil and/or groundwater encountered during the construction project will be contaminated above NJDEP remedial standards and will require proper management and handling.  Based on preliminary research, ERI identified potential environmental concerns such as historic fill, railroad bedding fill, and several gasoline service stations.  It is also known that two (2) groundwater Classification Exception Areas transect the 8th Street project corridor.

Once all due diligence is completed this summer, ERI will prepare a report to document the findings of the Background Research/Due Diligence assessment and the Pre-Construction Sampling.  The report will be prepared for potential inclusion in a Materials Management Plan and will include a description of the sampling activities, soil logs, laboratory data, tables summarizing laboratory results, and GIS-compatible plans and figures depicting sampling locations and results.  Furthermore, ERI will provide an interpretation of the results along with recommendations for further actions.
